Habits + Attitude = Sleep
Hypnosis is not magic, a trick or mystical either. The most remarkable thing about hypnosis is that it is an everyday event. Hypnosis = trance + suggestion. Trance is like being awake but in a different gear – a good example of this when you drive home, arrive and suddenly wonder how you got there. You made the same trip everyday it became automatic. That is a trance. Or maybe you are someone who become so absorbed in a movie that you can’t hear the person next to you talking “no, I didn’t notice them”? That is also a trance. When we are in a trance we are relaxed. Our body seems to just slow down. When we are in trance we are open to positive suggestion.
Let me say now, because I say this to ALL of my patients, NO YOU WILL NOT ACT LIKE A CHICKEN. People who go to stage hypnotists and act like imbeciles on stage go there expecting to, volunteer to and not surprisingly, make very good chickens. It is well noted that it is VERY difficult that to make a patient do something that they do not want to do under hypnosis. Negative suggestions do not work.
The suggestions that I offer in the CD are about relaxation, maintaining relaxation, building your confidence, maintaining your confidence, changing your attitudes and expectations about getting better sleep and unlearning the associations you have developed about going to bed and remaining awake. The program is structured in this way because it is the normal treatment process I use in one to one counselling. Firstly I offer information. Secondly I rebuild your confidence in your ability to make the changes and attain relaxation. Time and again I find that people who are referred to me have lost their confidence in their ability to cure insomnia and fall asleep easily. While using the CD you will start to make some changes based on the “sleep tips” (You know I call them sleep tips because that sounds less dramatic but really, to be honest, they are the SLEEP COMMANDMENTS). When you move onto the final track you will focus specifically on undoing the associations you have made between going to bed and staying awake in bed.
